Austra-Lanka Muslim Association (ALMA) is incorporated as a not-for-profit community organisation in New South Wales, Australia. It was founded in 1992 by a few Muslims of Sri Lankan background whose initial motive was to provide a common platform to bring together the increasing number of Sri Lankan Muslims arriving in Australia.

Meeting with the Prime Ministers -February 2017

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe and several cabinet ministers are currently in Australia on a state visit. The Prime Minister of Australia Hon. Malcolm Turnbull hosted a reception in honour of Prime Minister Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prof. Maithree Wickramasinghe, at the Parliament House in Canberra on 14 February 2017.

Since ALMA is a recognised Sri Lankan community organisation in Australia, ALMA President Rafi Mubarak and Secretary Feroze Razik were invited to attend this occasion.

The Prime Minister's visit also marks the 70 years of bilateral diplomatic relationship between Sri Lanka and Australia.

Among other guests, there were many Australian government ministers, MPs and diplomats present at this occasion. Another significance of this event was the presence of the Sri Lankan national cricket team and the Australian Prime Minister's XI cricket team.

 

Sri Lankan Consulate General's visit -January 2017

On the request of Sri Lankan  consulate General's Office in Sydney ALMA organised a religious observance / Dua Session in order to mark the 2nd Anniversary of His Excellency President Maithripala Sirisena in office and the 'National Integration and Reconciliation' week (8th Jan - 14th Jan).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This event was held at Auburn Gallipoli Mosque, Auburn (Sydney) on Sunday, 8th January 2017. Sri Lankan Consul General in Sydney, Mr Lal Wickrematunge and his staff members along with several ALMA members graced the occasion.

Ifthar function June 2016

On the invitation of the leader of the opposition (Parliament of NSW) and MP for Auburn, Hon Luke Foley, ALMA’s liaison officer Abdul Gafoor attended an Iftar function on 17th June 2016. Number of dignitaries including Grand Mufti of Australia, state and federal politicians, Islamic scholars, community leaders, leading school principals were among the invited guests.

i charity Ramadan 2016

Br Mohammed Mukim Khan of iCharity, a charity organisation who provide assistance to poor and the needy people in more than 20 countries, came forward and gave a generous donation to ALMA’s Sri Lanka Flood Relief Fund.

During the month of Ramadan ALMA’s annual fundraising event for Serendib Educational Foundation (SEF) scholarship programme for Sri Lanka’s needy and poor students took place successfully witnessing an enthusiastic participation and generous pledges of donations by our brothers and sisters. This fundraising is carried out in partnership with Human Appeal International to channel the funds through to SEF who carry out the ground work to identify the needy students and disburse funds to selected students.

 

Events & Activities
Eid-ul-Fitr Dinner function July 2016

ALMA had its annual Eid-ul-Fitr Dinner which also contained a segment of ACEP Ramadan competition prize giving as well. This function was attended by a sold-out record crowd of this nature ALMA ever had. It had several activities including trivia and kids games which kept all attendees fully engaged throughout the program.

 

 
Edul Fithr July 2016

Alhamdulillah, ALMA had a great Eid Celebration on 6 July 2016 at Turkish Mosque (Youth Centre) in Auburn. A large number of people attended for prayers and thereafter everyone exchanged salams and greetings with each other.
