Welcome to Austra-Lanka Muslim Association (ALMA)
[8 July 2013]
The new moon of Ramadhan has NOT been sighted anywhere in Australia or any neighbouring countries tonight (Monday, 8 July 2013). Accordingly, ALMA EXCO has made decision to begin the month of Ramadhan from Wednesday, 10th July. Along with Imam Council of NSW, many other associations in Sydney too have concluded that the month of Sha'ban will be completed with 30 days.
Tharaweeh prayers will be held in most of the mosques from tomorrow night. Please check your local mosque for further details.
Insha Allah, an email with details of the four Ifthar and Lylathul Qadr night programmes will be circulated shortly.
ALMA EXCO wish everyone a blessed and spiritual month of Ramadhan.
ALMA members and friends are invited for the Eid-ul-Adha BBQ and Family Picnic Day on Saturday 12 November 2011 at the Community Picnic area, off Killeen street Auburn. The BBQ is from Qurban meat sacrificed during Eid-ul-Adha. The event also includes sporting and other recreational activities for all age groups. So, come along with your families and take part in the excitement that Eid brings to our families.
A "Jumping Castle" has been organised for kids under 12 to enjoy. The picnic area has been booked from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Although the Qurban meat is sponsored by those taking part in the Qurban project, there are other expenses for hiring the Jumping castle and payment for the venue. Therefore a modest fee of approximately $15.00 per family will be charged during the Eid BBQ.
The ALMA Annual General Meeting for 2011 is scheduled for Saturday the 10 September 2011 at Auburn Town Hall as informed earlier. Since this is not an election year, the AGM is scheduled to start at 6:30 pm and is expected to conclude at about 7.00 pm.
The AGM will be followed by Eid-ul-Fitr celebration dinner. ALMA has arranged for a catered dinner. For obvious operational reasons, ALMA require you to send in your RSVP on or before Wednesday 7 September 2011. The cost for adults and high school children is set at $20.00 while primary school children are required to pay $10.00 each. Please note the cost for participating without notification on or before 7 September 2010 (gate price) may be $25.00. Free entry for children below primary school age.
After following the decisions made relating to the beginning of Ramadan, ALMA would like to inform that a number of Masjids around Sydney have decided that Ramadhan will begin tonight with fasting beginning on Friday 20th July 2012. A number of other Masjids also have announced that the month of Ramadhan will begin tomorrow night with fasting starting on Saturday 21st July 2012.
Although beginning of fasting on two different days has been the case for a number of years, an increasing number of people are beginning to have strong views on this issue. Therefore ALMA has left the decision of beginning the month of Ramadhan for individuals to decide. ALMA executive committee joins me to extend Ramadhan Mubarak to all members and friends for a very beneficial month of Ramadhan.
ALMA will conduct Eid-ul-Adha prayers on Sunday 6th November 2011 at the Auburn Park Insha Allah. This was decided following confirmation that the Day of Arafah has been declared as Saturday 5th November 2011. As usual, Takbir will begin at 7.30 am and Eid salat will be at 8.00 am.
Our traditional Eid breakfast is also part of the event and ALMA ladies coordinators are in the process of organising it. If you would like to contribute towards the breakfast, please contact us to get details of the menu. Those who are unable to participate in organising the breakfast are encouraged to bring a plate of food and a flask of tea to share with friends. Please bring a mat or plastic sheet when you come for Eid prayers.
We take this opportunity to wish you a very happy Eid-ul-Adha. Eid Mubarak.

ALMA will Insha Allah celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Tuesday 30 August 2011 at the Auburn Park (corner of Simpson Street and Macquarie Road).
The decision to celebrate Eid on Tuesday 30 August 2011 has been very difficult this year as a significant number of Sydney Muslims will also celebrate on Wednesday.
The Executive committee of ALMA met tonight (29/08/2011) to discuss various issues regarding this matter and concluded to follow decisions taken by two major masjids namely Galipolli and Lakemba Masjids to celebrate Eid on Tuesday 30 August 2011.
Members will have an opportunity to pay your Zakat-ul-Fitr before the prayer and it is set at $10 per person.
Members are requested to arrive early for Takbir at 7.30 am and the Eid prayers will be at 8.00 am.
