ALMA Accounts

ALMA operates three separate accounts for its financial management purposes. These accounts were set up to manage the ALMA financial matters effectively so that funds specified for certain purposes will not be mistakenly used for other purposes. Below is a brief description of each account and the account details. ALMA accounts are held with the York Street branch of ANZ bank. ALMA treasurer is responsible for the financial management of all ALMA accounts. The Treasurer appreciates if members could kindly inform him/her via an email when funds are deposited into any of ALMA accounts.

General Account

Majority of ALMA financial matters are handled via this account. All incomes and expenditures are operated using the general account. Membership fees, donations, payment for expenses, hire of hall costs, insurance payments, Iftar donations and related expenses are managed via this account.

ALMA community Education Program (ACEP) funds are also deposited into this account. However, separate account details are maintained to monitor incomes and expenditures of ACEP funds that come in and taken out from the general account in order to provide a report for the ACEP committee.

The general account details are as follows:

Bank: ANZ Bank
Account Name: Austra Lanka Muslim Association
BSB: 012 370
Account Number: 254 570 193

Education Fund and the Community Development Centre Account

This account was originally setup to promote educational activities for youth and students. However, this fund was not used for some time as the general account was deemed sufficient to manage the incomes and expenditures of ALMA transactions. When the Community Development Centre project was launched in 2006, it was necessary to operate a separate account to deposit funds raised specifically for that purpose. Therefore the education fund is now used exclusively to manage the funds collected for the Community Development Centre project.

The Education Fund and CDC account details are as follows:

Bank: ANZ Bank
Account Name: ALMA-Education Fund and CDC
BSB: 012 370
Account Number: 587 820
066

Janaza Fund

ALMA launched its Janaza fund account to support needy members at a time of need when a Janaza happened in the family. Management of this fund is the responsibility of the Treasure in consultation with the ALMA executive committee. This account is not operated for day-to-day transactions. However, members willing to contribute to the account are most welcome and are requested to send an email to receive further information.

Eid-ul-Adha 2011 and ALMA Eid BBQ

Eid-ul-Adha is just around the corner. It is anticipated that Eid-ul-Adha would fall on Sunday 6 November or Monday 7 November 2011. We will notify the ALMA Eid prayer date when it is confirmed. As usual Eid prayers will be held at Auburn Park Insha Allah.

There are a number of significant acts of Ibadah that relate to Eid-ul-Adha. Fasting on the first nine days of Dhul Hijja and sacrificing a sheep (Qurbaan) on the day of Eid-ul-Adha are two highly recommended acts of Ibadah. Last year ALMA members and friends sponsored 27 Qurbaans, 23 of them were chanelled through Human Appeal International (HAI) charity organisation. ALMA organised a BBQ with 4 Qurbaans for its members and friends.
