Third Iftar in 2009 - another successful event

Alhamdulillah, the third ACEP Iftar yesterday that was conducted in conjunction with the ACEP also saw the beginning of the Ramadhan Qur'an competition. It was very pleasing to see children mostly under the age of 10 years enthusiastically practising before facing two judges who were assigned the task of selecting the best three Qur'an recitations of Sura Yaseen. A smaller group of even younger children also participated in a separate competition for memorising small sura's of the Qur'an

The venue opened half an hour earlier than other days at 4.00 pm to accomodate the Ramadhan competiton. We were blessed to have volunteer teachers of very high calibre who participated as independent judges of the competitions. Yesterday we had the voluntery services of four new judges and Dr. Ahmad Aseri who has been teaching our kids for nearly two years.

Once again the highlight for the evening was a speech by Br. Jalal Chami who has completed two years of Shariah studies at Madina University and is back in Australia on Ramadhan vacation. This speech was immediately after Maghrib salat where he summarised the virtues of Ramadhan through 6 important points as part of his introduction to the topic. He stressed the need to assess the strength of our Imaan and our true self without the distractions and whisperings of Shayateen.

Isha prayers and Taraweeh prayers followed as per set agenda prior to dinner.

For the third consecutive time during this Ramadhan, a good number of participants stayed behind for Tasbeeh prayers before proceedings for the evening closed around 10.30 pm.

ALMA had the opportunity to launch the much awaited JANAZA fund and introduce the Janaza Subcommittee on that night. Alhamdulillah, over 75 family and individual members were signed up for this programme immediately.
