Young Achievers Award and Ceremonial Opening of Sewing Class
There were 15 registered participants following the course where two volunteer teachers; Sr. Sumaiyya Alavi and Sr. Khursheed Basha were in charge of teaching the course material while the management committee included two executive committee members: Dr. Mohamed Anzar and Sr. Munawwara Rizvi along with the two teachers.
ALMA is pleased to announce that the sewing classes for ladies has begun on Saturday 26 June 2010 at the Somerville Room, Auburn Council building. This is a project initiative sponsored by the Premier's department under "Community Building Partnerships" theme. The opening of the classes began with an address by ALMA president Br. Mohamed Fazli who gave details about the syllabus, teachers, administrators and their roles and course duration etc. Several executive committee members including vice president Br. Rizvi Fareed were present at the opening.
The machines purchased for the project included 2 high end machines, one for embroidery work and one for quilting type of work. In addition there were four general purpose machines and one overlocker machine. A wide range of accessories and materials for various products planned for production were on display at the opening event.
ALMA is very pleased to introduce a course of this nature for the first time where the participants are expected to gain valuable skills that will be useful for themselves, their families and the community at large. Initial phase of this course is expected to run until November 2010 where the second phase will begin early next year. Anyone interested to know more details of the class please contact us via email.
