Official Inauguration - Community Building Partnerships Project
Hon. Minister for Local Government, Juvenile Justice and MP for Auburn Ms. Barbara Perry was the chief guest at the official opening of the Community Building Partnerships project under which ALMA received funding to run a sewing class for interested women in the community. The opening ceremony coincided with the young achievers awards night on Sunday 11 July 2010 in the Auburn Town Hall building. Speaking on the occasion, the minister pledged her continued support to ALMA and appreciated the effort put in by the community to support skills development projects that benefit not only the individuals but the community as a whole.
The Community Building Partnerships project is an initiative of the Premier's Department where local community organisations applied for funding to undertake projects that helped community members develop skills in a conducive environment. ALMA was successful in receiving a grant of $10,000 for the sewing classes project largely due to the backing of the minister where twelve trainees have registered to follow a series of approximately ten classes over a six month period.
Ms. Perry was impressed by the sophisticated sewing machines on display for sewing embroidery and quilting products and took an active interest at the sample products that were shown to her as designs that would be produced as part of the training for registered trainees undertaking the first phase of the course.
The photographs show a section of the trainers and trainees with the minister during the official opening ceremony.
