Young Achievers Awards Night
The 3rd Young Achievers Awards Ceremony to recognise and appreciate the achievements of our youth in various spheres especially who have excelled in their high school studies and embarked on tertiary education was held on 11 July 2010 at the Auburn Town Hall.
The Minister for Local Government, Juvenile Justice and MP for Auburn Hon. Barbara Perry was the chief guest. The Sri Lanka Consul General in Sydney Hon. P.D. Fernando, Mrs. Fernando, Auburn Mayor Hon. Hicham Zraika, Australian Federal Police Community Liaison Officer in Sydney Mr. Fady Taha and a number of other distinguist guests graced the occasion.
The previous young achievers awards ceremonies were held in 2004 and 2007. Sixteen young achievers were recognised to receive awards on this occasion where twelve of them presented themselved on the night while a parent of a receipient who was unable to attend picked up her award.
The award ceremony event also coincided with the official inauguration of the "Community Building Partnerships" project under which ALMA received a grant of $10,000 from the Premier's Department to start a sewing class for interested women in our community.
The event was a dinner function that also included an excellent childrens program where a number speeches, songs and stories were entertaining to the participants.
