First Iftar in 2010 – an appreciation - By Razmi Marzook
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam, Assalamu Alaikum
Welcome oh Ramadaan.... you are honoured, oh the month of the Qur’aan....
I would like to take this opportunity to say Ramadan Mubarak to all our brothers and sisters in Islam.
Alhamdulillah, I was fortunate to attend the first Iftar programme that was organized by ALMA on 14th August 2010 at Dundas Community Centre at Telopea. Immediately after Maghrib prayers led by Br. Ahmad Shraim, Br. Fazli in his opening speech said that weekly Iftar’s during the month of Ramadhan have been organised by ALMA since 2003 and thanked Allah (SWT) for this great blessing. A large number of Muslims numbering nearly 300 graced the first Iftar occasion for 2010.
Following Br. Fazli’s opening address, a group of seven children sang a beautiful song welcoming the month of Ramadan before the Bayan for the evening was delivered by the guest speaker Br. Jalal Chami. During the introduction of the guest speaker, it was revealed that Br. Jalal had been a previous teacher at the ALMA Community Education Program for five years before embarking on a journey to study Islamic Shariah at the Madina University. Br. Jalal has kept touch with ALMA ever since and has visited Australia annually and taken part in ALMA events regularly.
Br. Jalal in his Bayan explained the two joyous moments of a fasting Muslim: the first being the time of Iftar and the second being the occasion when one would get the opportunity to meet his Lord in the day of Judgement. Further, he also explained as to how fasting has been prescribed to us as revealed in Surathul Bakara and why every Muslim should make an attempt to be conscious of Allah (SWT).
O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - see V.2:2). (183)
The bayan was a lively one benefitting and enhancing the Iman of each and every participant which is a difficult task to describe in detail in this report. The bayan ended just before the Azan for Isha prayers.
The Taraweeh prayer was lead by Br. Ubaidur Rahmaan whose beautiful recitation, Masha Allah made an impact on all the followers. As usual, ALMA never missed this occasion too to provide a light dinner where everyone had the opportunity to talk to each other while enjoying the meals. Although, it was already a long session with full of events in the agenda, the children participated in an Islamic Quiz competition conducted by Br. Madani Basha where the boys group finally won against the girls after a tough battle. This competition was the favourite event among the kids where they participated with very high enthusiasm while testing their knowledge in Islamic Studies.
Following this event many parents with kids left but the devoted participants stayed behind for Tasbeeh prayers and Witr. A spirited Du’a in English and Tamil was recited by Br. Ubaidur Rahmaan to lift the spirits of the participants who remained until the end of Tasbeeh prayers. Proceeding for the evening concluded at around 10.30 pm.
May Allah (SWT) accept all your good deeds and make this Ramadhan a very rewarding month for your family and yourself. Ameen. Please do not forget your brothers and sisters around the world and the ones who are now not with us in your Du'a throughout this blessed holy month.
