Premier hosts Iftar at NSW Parliament House
For the second consecutive year ALMA representatives were among those who were invited yesterday (23 Aug 2010) for Iftar at the NSW Parliament House by Premier of NSW , Hon. Kristina Keneally to celebrate Interfaith Harmony. The Iftar at Parliament House concept during the month of Ramadhan is a legacy of former premier Hon. Bob Carr who introduced this initiative in 2004.
The diverse community gathering included leaders from several religious denominations, ambassadors and high commissioners representing a number of foreign governments, NSW government ministers and commissioners of government agencies.
Auburn MP and Minister for Local Government Hon. Barbara Perry who has been a supporter of ALMA activities in the Auburn area for a number of years introduced the ALMA representative Br. Mohamed Fazli to the Premier. Br. Fazli used this opportunity to thank the premier in person for the support of her department's community building partnerships project initiative through which ALMA was awarded a grant of $10,000 in May 2010 for implementing a sewing class for interested women in the community.
