Farewell Dinner for High Commissioner H.E. Walgampaya

The Sri Lankan expatriate community in Sydney under the patronage of the Sri Lanka Consul Generals Office in Sydney paid tribute to the services rendered by His Excellency Senaka Walgampaya (PC) and Madam Dilrukshi Walgampaya over the last three years in Canberra at a very critical passage of time. The event was a dinner on Saturday 6th November 2010 at the Blue Elephant restaurant in Pennant Hills where more than 100 Sri Lankan expatriate community members including presidents and leaders of local community organisations with a Sri Lankan interest participated.

As you may recall Mr. Senaka Walgampaya and Madam Walgampaya were the chief guests at the ALMA Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations at the Dundas community centre in September 2009. During the farewell dinner Mr. and Mrs. Walgampaya fondly recalled their pleasant experience and the warmth of the ALMA community during their visit to Sydney in 2009 and conveyed their best wishes to all the members of ALMA and made it a point to request that ALMA members keep their ties to the motherland ever closer as it has done in the past. They also encouraged all community members to show an interest in investing in the booming economy after 30 years of disruption due to the civil war that ended last year.

ALMA representatives who participated at the dinner function conveyed the well wishes of the community members to the outgoing High Commissioner and Madam Walgampaya who are planning to settle in Sri Lanka.
